Description: The Claremont and Claremont Place provide 68 units of affordable workforce housing in South Seattle. The apartments are located on the former site of the Rainier Avenue Chubby & Tubby Hardware store and adjacent parking lot. The five-story mixed-use apartment building is located on Rainier Ave. S. and 10 low-rise townhouses and flats are located across the alley. Both projects share a large, landscaped courtyard, roof terrace and interior community spaces. Commercial frontage on Rainier Avenue South serves to revitalize the neighborhood and provides an active streetscape.
The project was built to the sustainable standards of Evergreen Sustainable Development, Built-Green 4-star and SCL Built Smart programs. The project was awarded the 2011 Built-Green “Hammer Award” for multi-family projects by the Master Builders Association and was a finalist in the Jack Kemp Workforce Housing Models of Excellence Award through the Urban Land Institute in September 2011.
